Metro to the sand

The coast here is four named stops. Whitley Bay is Spanish City, The Links and the long beach. Cullercoats is the small bay downhill from the station. Tynemouth is the market roof, Front Street and Longsands. North Shields is the town; the harbour is a walk down to the Fish Quay.

No Metro closures in our area today. Ahead: no Metro between St James and Monkseaton 24 October–1 November, replacement bus 900. West Jesmond subway closed from Monday 19 October, about eight weeks. North and South piers stay shut. Official Metro: Nexus Metro. Ferry: Nexus ferry.

Water is a separate decision from the train. Cullercoats is classed Poor (2025) — the yearly class, not a spill. Whitley Bay, Longsands and King Edward’s are Excellent. No storm overflow is running this morning. Beach Aware reads Normal at all five beaches. Sea is 13.0°C. Read Beach before you swim.
