The coast here is four named stops, not one “seaside” destination. Whitley Bay is Spanish City, The Links and the long beach. Cullercoats is the small bay downhill from the station. Tynemouth is the market roof, Front Street and Longsands. North Shields is the town; the harbour is a walk down to the Fish Quay.
Monday 31 August is a bank holiday. Metro uses Sunday frequency. Service resumed South Gosforth–South Hylton/South Shields from 07:24 on Friday 28 August; ticket acceptance on Stagecoach, Arriva and Go North East stays in the affected area until regular frequency. The Tide Tour 300 is in its last days this week. North and South piers are still shut (Chronicle, 25 August), so a Metro ride does not give you a pier.
Water is a separate decision from the train. Cullercoats is classed Poor this week. Whitley Bay is Excellent. There is no live sewage spill named. Sea at Longsands is 15.1°C. Read Beach before you swim, then Travel for the live Nexus links.
