Whitley Bay is the yellow-line stop for Spanish City and the long beach. This week the funfair is on The Links, Watts Slope, Thursday 27 to Monday 31 August, 11am–6pm.

Bathing water here is classed Excellent. There is no live sewage spill named this week. Cullercoats, one stop south, is still Poor — that is a different bay. Check The Bay before you swim.

Whitley Bay parkrun is cancelled on Saturday 29 August. Course unsafe or blocked. St Mary's Lighthouse holds a free 128th birthday picnic on Friday 28 August, 11:30am. Rain about 30% at picnic hour. Leave the island by 2:33pm (safe crossing 06:37–14:33); rain rises after lunch. Crossing times: North Tyneside Council.

Indoor this weekend: Jam Jar on Park Avenue, pay as you please, Friday to Sunday only — closed Monday. PLAYHOUSE on Marine Avenue is dark until Elkie Brooks on Thursday 3 September.

Metro

Yellow line to Whitley Bay. Spanish City and The Links are toward the sea from the station. St Mary's Island is further north along the links.
